Although LED technology is widely used for everyday lighting, it is essential to also ensure economic benefits and the same conditions for animals in agricultural lighting applications. There are some specific needs, such as color selection (wavelength) or the elimination of flicker, that must be taken into consideration in the use of such lighting. For this reason, MEAN WELL has developed a constant voltage and flicker-free dimmable power supply for special lights used in poultry and agricultural lighting applications.

Since the sizes of farms vary, poultry lighting is designed with constant voltage mounting devices and wired according to scale. Therefore, it is also necessary to consider length restrictions to ensure uniformity in dimming. Furthermore, the physiological characteristics of poultry must be carefully considered, as animals are particularly sensitive to temperature variations and lighting alterations. In particular, poultry growth is strongly influenced by intensity, duration, and spectrum of light exposure. With proper lighting, animal appetite can be stimulated, increasing their food consumption and accelerating growth. Therefore, a flicker-free power supply unit must be used for proper dimming of lighting.

Generally, traditional constant voltage power supplies for dimming use designs with PWM (pulse width modulation) output, but PWM dimming often causes noise and flicker.

To solve this problem, MEAN WELL has developed a flicker-free dimmable LED power supply with constant voltage output, which reduces the possibility of startling animals due to changes in ambient light and improves their growth or egg production. In addition to poultry lighting applications, flicker-free design is also suitable for areas with higher requirements, such as photography studios, reading spaces, high-end boutiques, and other applications.

In general, the lighting industry uses 0-10V dimmable drivers combined with a control system.

Currently, MEAN WELL offers three types of powers for agricultural lighting products, and customers can have more options based on their needs.
