UL and IEC have agreed on the implementation date of the new regulation 62368-1
The new UL / IEC 62368-1 certification process is coming, which will replace regulations 60065 (Audio / Video) and 60950 (IT) for external power supplies.
The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has drafted the regulation EN 62368-1 and was published in Europe in the second half of 2014. The expected date for the withdrawal of the standards to be replaced, EN 60065 and EN 60950-1, was originally set for June 20, 2019, but has been postponed to December 2020.
UL has therefore established a new effective date for the certification process of new equipment, for A/V, IT or ICT equipment, or for the significant modification of existing equipment and certifications: December 20, 2020.
From December 20, 2020, the standards EN 60065 and EN 60950-1 will cease to provide the presumption of conformity to the EU LVD (2014/35/EU) and will be fully replaced by the new standard EN 62368-1.
Ongoing certification will be allowed for existing certifications that have not been significantly modified after that date.
In the EU, this date aligns with the recommended adoption period by IEC TC108 and will allow AV and ICT equipment manufacturers to adequately prepare for the transition to the new standard and ensure that products are certified 62368-1 in a timely manner.
